NXT July 17th Review: A Big Night Feel

On the last episode of NXT this weeks episode was pretty much laid out for us. We'll be seeing Bayley against debuting Charlotte (Flair), a match I'll hate in Bo Dallas vs. Scott Dawson and a match I'll likely love in Sami Zayn vs. Antonio Cesaro vs. Leo Kruger to name a no.1 contender to the NXT title.
Leo Kruger vs. Sami Zayn vs. Antonio Cesaro: A big way to open the show I would have put this on in the main event. Cesaro getting a big pop when he comes out, his in ring skill speaks louder than anything else in my view fans even join in with the “We the People”. Sami got a good pop as well and Leo got nothing, keep this in mind as I think they'll pick Leo to win this but lets see this. Cesaro jumps on Sami from the get go and pushes Leo away, Sami then floats over Cesaro and armdrags Leo and then Cesaro. Follows with a dropkick to Leo and Sami attacks Cesaro but he cuts him off with knees and as Cesaro is choking with his boot Leo throws him over the top and hits a hammerlock suplex to Sami. Leo starts attacking Sami's arm and is constantly looking back for Cesaro this lets Sami reverse an Irish whip which leads to Cesaro grabbing Leo and just yacking him to the outside. Sami hits a beautiful tope con heelio to both men leading to a break. We come back with Sami hitting a boot to Cesaro on the outside and the fans chanting “Ole”. Cesaro blocks a snapmare and hits a European uppercut, Sami gets put on the apron and attempts a top rope cross body but Cesaro catches him and turns it into a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker in a very impressive spot but Leo breaks up the pin. We get the typical face off in a triple threat match when someone breaks a pin during which the fans chant “We the people” this ends with both men trading shots and Sami rolling up Leo for a 2. Cesaro hits a sick sounding European uppercut. Sami's in the corner and attempts a boot to Leo who grabs him in a clutch and Cesaro comes from behind leading to a double suplex spot which looked awesome and got a massive reaction and a “That was Awesome”. Cesaro deadlifts Leo up and out of the ring and locks in the rear chinlock to Sami which leads to lifting up Sami and spinning around, this leads to an attempted Neutralizer but Leo hits a clothesline from behind and gets 2 on both men. Leo attempts a Northern Lights but Sami blocks and ducks a clothesline by Cesaro leading to a DDT/flatliner to both men. Sami starts fighting back against both men with rights and sends Leo into Cesaro gets an O'Conor roll for 2 and as he's kicked out walks straight into Cesaro who pushes him up into the air but is caught in a Hurricanrana for a really close fall. Leo gets sent to the outside by Sami but Cesaro gets the Neutralizer and Leo throws out Cesaro for the win. A fantastic match but the wrong guy won in my view, I don't think anyone will care for Bo/Leo but there was reports of a 2 out of 3 falls match between Sami & Cesaro which is said to be amazing so I'm hyped for that. Winner: Leo Kruger
Scott Dawson vs. Bo Dallas: Speaking of not caring. The awful Sylvester LaForte comes out to introduce Dawson, I don't know what happened to Garrett but I'd be fine if they both disappeared. Regal says Dawson is like a throwback and if he was losing his hair he'd look like an Anderson. Bo comes out to extremely loud boos and acting like his typical over the top babyface character which is beyond sickening. I'll try keeping up with this match but I really don't care one bit. Tie up to start Dawson attacks with strikes because that's all he does. Bo with 2 bad dropkicks and a crossbody but Dawson back with a clothesline, leg drop, knee drop and elbow drop. Think of a strike and Dawson will do it but don't think too flashy. Headlock by Dawson with Bo fights back and reverses a back body drop. Starts fighting back with forearms and his boot to the side of the head to silence. Bo hits Raven's turnbuckle clothesline/bulldog combo and a disgustingly bad belly to belly for the win, which is worse since that's HIS FINISHER! I don't know what WWE see in either men but they don't have anything. I don't get why they don't turn Bo, I understand someone like Cena since he's so important in the company but Bo means nothing so turn him heel and ride out the boos. After Leo attacks to small cheers and hits a side neckbreaker, he grabs the title and cuddles it to “Thank you Kruger” chants. Winner: Bo Dallas
Bayley vs. Charlotte: No backstage stuff so far and all advertised matches have happened so I wonder how they'll close the show. Also why don't divas get last names in WWE? Ric Flair comes out to a massive reaction, I thought for a second they were giving his daughter his music which would have been a massive mistake in my view she's gonna struggle to overcome his legacy anyways just look at David! Ric asks if he's in Orlando, Florida that could be for a cheap pop or a legit question knowing Flair. He mentions his past in this past and how he loves it. He feels honoured for being at NXT and he respects the locker room but he's really proud to be here to introduce his daughter and he's going to support her and that she'll be the greatest Flair offspring which she has a good chance at since the untimely passing of Reid. Charlotte showing some flexibility and gymnastic skills during her entrance. Charlotte “Woos” to begin, might as well play of it. During the tie up Tony Dawson mentions that the Wyatt's defending the tag titles against Neville & Graves is the main event, a very packed show. Charlotte and Bayley exchange arm ringers leading to Charlotte doing a beautiful cartwheel through. Charlotte ducks a clothesline with the splits and rolls up Bayley and floats over in a beautiful sequence, she knows how to use her outside skills to her advantage. Bayley gets a double leg float over, a backslide and a cradle for a 2. Ric takes off his jacket to show he's serious. Bayley gets a kick to the gut and a suplex for a 2. Charlotte does her version of the Flair float over the ropes and sends Bayley into the turnbuckle. Charlotte hits a iffy flying forearm but then a gorgeous flipping low ace crusher for the win. Charlotte is really good and has a great style, Ric looks like he's legit emotional. If Charlotte keeps things up I think she'll do great things. Winner: Charlotte
You know how I said there has been no backstage stuff well I wished it has stayed that way as we go backstage to Sheamus! It takes 2 seconds for a fella to come out of his mouth, he says he's excited to compete next week more than when he had his first pint. Thankfully before he could get going the Wyatt's attack. Bray leans over him and says “It takes one stone to bring a giant to his knees, now you tell him I said follow the buzzards”. Looks like Bray/Sheamus next week. Still backstage this time with someone called Tyler Breeze, he has his back to the camera says he's a model and won't let the camera see his face while he's being worked on by a team and says next week they'll witness gorgeous. We will also see the finals of the NXT women's title tournament next week.
Wyatt Family (Luke Harper & Eric Rowen) (c) vs. Corey Graves & Adrian Neville for the NXT tag titles: I don't know if Kassius Ohno is legit injured or not but I would have preferred him in this match, still that's a minor complaint seeing his replacement. In ring introductions which I always love as it gives off that big match feel, the only thing missing is Michael Buffer. Luke gets a knee to Corey to start but he floats over and hits a series of strikes and a hanging guillotine. He then pulls Luke out and continues the attack, tag to Neville and the duo do a version of the Hardy's Poetry in Motion. Luke fights back and a tag, Eric with headbuts but there's a blind tag leading to a dropkick to Eric while he's scooped up Neville. Eric attempts a shoulder block but misses luckily it was his corner so a tag occurred but Luke is hit with punches the second he gets in and Corey hits a series of dragon screw leg whips. Eric comes in and Neville hits a springboard dropkick. Corey attempts his chop block but Luke hits a mean looking boot for a 2. We come back from break with Eric having Corey in a head vice, he drives Corey into the corner and tags to Luke who hits some nice strikes leading to a tag back out. Eric locks in a bearhug after a brief double team, Eric hits an elbow after a brief comeback. Tag to Luke and 3 elbows for a 2 leads to a crossface chicken wing but Corey comes back with a sunset flip but he then eats a nice dropkick which impressed Regal a lot. Tag back to Eric who locks on an abdominal stretch, Corey then floats over a scoop slam and is trying to make the tag but Eric has hooked his pants and pulls him back into a clothesline. Luke back in and he whips Corey into the corner which allows him to nail Eric and fight back against Luke but he runs into a Black Hole Slam for a 2. Corey is whipped into the corner and Luke attempts a big boot but misses and flies over the top rope letting Corey get a very hot tag to Neville. Neville and Eric in with Neville hitting flying forearms, he jumps over the rope onto the apron and hits a high kick, Luke goes for a sweep of the legs but he jumps over hits a kick and runs off the apron with a nice hurricanrana. Eric runs at him but he pulls the rope down leading to an incredible top rope springboard moonsault to the outside, both his outside moves he lands on his feet with is very impressive. He brings Eric back in and hits a 2nd rope Phoenix Splash but Luke breaks it up. Neville goes up again but Luke distracts the ref letting Bray crotch him on the turnbuckle but only gets a 2. Sheamus comes out to attack to Bray and throws him into the steps. Corey runs in with his chopblock and Neville hits the Red Arrow for the win. A massive reaction to the win and it was a fantastic match, Regal was phenomenal on commentary during this match and you had to take the titles off the Wyatt's since their now in WWE. Winners and new Champions: Corey Graves & Adrian Neville
Every match outside of the awful Bo/Dawson match had a big match feel to it or at least an importance to it. Charlotte had a strong debut, the triple threat opener was awesome and we have new tag champs. We also got plenty lined up for next week with Bray vs. Sheamus, the finals of the Women's tournament and a debut of some random model guy. Really good show and watching going out of your way to check it out, but you don't have to as I post a link with this as I'm so kind.
